So, in the end, East decides to seek approval for going to Costco on a first date:

E: “What would you think if I took you to Costco on our first date?”

F: “Umm… actually I think it would be hilarious!  Cool.  I wouldn’t mind!”

E: “MARRY ME!  MARRY ME RIGHT NOW, BABY”

F: “(LOL) Sure!”

E: “Where’s that onion ring I saw earlier?”

THE END

F: “C’mon! $5.95!!!  How cheaper can you get???”

M: “Where?”

F: “Pho”

East totally acts like he didn’t even hear her

E: “The best place to take a date – Everyone, all you guys listen!  Two places, two places – Number one: COSTCO.  Samples. Free.  If you feel the ASIAN fever…”

F: “T & T!”

F: “Why are you giving us dating advice?”

E: “Cuz.”

E: “ I even go to Costo when I don’t even have a membership… to get FREE food”

M: “How do you get in???”

E: ”Oh.  I’m stealth.  I’m Asian, what can I say.”

M: “T & T has a lot of free samples”

E: “They’re (T &T) just as cheap as me!  They know.  They’re Chinese, I’m Chinese.  They know!”

Another friend joins in.  East explains once again:

E: “Two places. COSTCO.  Hell it even says COSTco.  Cost!  In some languages NO COST.  CostNO!”

E: “Pho is too expensive”

E: “Fine Fine we’ll go to Pho.  She can just have those bean sprouts and lemon and that what do you call it, basil”

E: “I’ll give her some soup, how’s that?”

E: “I will cook rice at home, bring it to Pho, and she can use the beef sauce and bean sprouts to season it.”

M: “Where do you go on a second date?”

E: “Let me think”

M: “Earls!”

E: “EARLS??? What the???  That’s like a wedding man!”

M: “Second date is hard for me to think ’cause it never gets to that point.  I thought that far ahead but never been in that situation”

F: “I wonder why”

E: “That’s true.  Whatever.  If a girl can’t accept me for who I am then… well a lot of girls don’t accept me for who I am”

E: “If we go somewhere she has to pay for some of my gas.  Gas ain’t cheap you know”

M: “What’s a good compromise?”

M: “A picnic”

E: “That’s not bad”

F: “Wine and cheese”

M: “Wine and cheese???”  (his tone implies it’s too expensive)

E: “Don’t worry.  I’ll just pretend I’m lactose intolerant… fine I’ll give her Kraft cheese”

E: “I will go to Costco, bring a bag, get all the samples and bring it to the picnic.  I’m not even going to buy a basket, just bring a costco bag.”

F: “Costco doesn’t have bags.  They have boxes”

E: “Costco give you boxes for FREE.  I’m so solid.  So solid”

E: “All you can eat sushi.  I’ll save that for a special occasion, like our 10th anniversary or like, I don’t know, our baby’s birthday or whatever.  I don’t know – something important.”

E: “We’ll go to Shabusan, pay for one person, I’ll bring a bag…”

F: “Tupperware!”

E: “Ah no.  Tupperware’s too expensive”

E: “I’ll bring all the food home – I will get a week’s worth of food.  We’ll celebrate for a week.”

F: “So thoughtful”

E: “Anytime.”

Moving on, I told East I don’t like putting men in an awkward position when it comes to paying the bill.  I feel uncomfortable that men feel obligated to pay.  So I pay at least my share of the bill, unless it’s his birthday, right Lyall?  HOWEVER, I absolutely cannot stand cheapness.  This date  that I was talking about was so cheap, I’m not even sure he realized it.  Here are some of East’s (E) wise first date suggestions, and comments from other friends (M=Guy, F=Gal) that were there: 

Part I

M: “You don’t pay for it, it looks bad.  You pay for it, you still look bad.”

E: “That’s why, you have to go into the mindset and say you are not paying for it!” (in a stern voice)

E: “Fine, fine.  But if I am paying for her, she is going to eat so much free bread, by the time that she needs to order she would be full.  All she can eat is a cookie.”

M: “Are we talking about a modern woman or an old fashion one?”

T:  “Any one of us (women) here”

(East is then handed a bowl with a little dallop of the birthday cake and we both laugh)

F: “That’s what you deserve, that’s what East deserves.”

E: “Okay” (shows the people in this conversation the lack of cake he was given) “This is, this is the portion that the girl should eat: less than 5 bucks”

(E then turns to the camera and waves)  “Hey what’s up?  To my future wife. Kidding… Sort of.”

I was more of a Canucks fan – Pavel Bure “The Russian Rocket” and Trevor Linden were my favorites.  I wasn’t that much of a fanatic, didn’t have posters up in my room or anything, but I did have posters of Keanu Reeves.  Eeesh.  What was I thinking?!

Kellog’s Honey Nut Cornflake is my favorite.  They don’t sell it in Canada anymore, so I brought some over from Prague.

I grew up on cereal.  I can live off of cereal

I find oatmeal and anything resembling bird food gross

I was born and raised in Toronto, and never going back for good

I hate waiting, and I tend to do that a lot when I am back in Toronto

I love Ross; it’s my favorite store

I eat every hour, especially at work because work is mundane

I don’t drink or smoke — EVER!

I have no piercings. 

I love the scent of new born babies

I love my mom.  She makes the best beef jerky!

I eat Island Farms yogurt mixed with berries every morning at work

I don’t like anything “diet” or “low-in-fat”

I think gay people are born gay, and it’s mother nature’s way of controlling our population

I have everything against materialism and those who think they are too good for anyone else

My children will be mixed or I will have no children at all

I snowboard and play volleyball, and trying to get better at both

It’s hard for me to actually hate anyone, and I never have before, but that has recently changed

You know I really think you’re somethin’ special when I spend a lot of time in the kitchen, or when I start “cutting-and-pasting”

My laugh is apparently contagious

I’m allergic to cats.  They don’t like me anyway.
